Augustine Hong, M.D.
Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Hong served as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and the Corneal Fellowship Program Director at Washington University in St. Louis. During his 12-year tenure, he was deeply engaged in education and mentorship, earning the Academic Teacher of the Year Award in Ophthalmology. He has trained and mentored over one hundred ophthalmology residents and fellows, many of whom continue to impact their communities both nationally and internationally. He is also an active surgical instructor at national cataract and corneal surgery courses. Ever the public servant, Dr. Hong served as Chief of Ophthalmology at the St. Louis Veterans Affairs Hospitals, where he led a multi-specialty team committed to delivering exceptional eye care to U.S. Veterans. He considers it an honor of a lifetime to have served U.S. Veterans as an ophthalmologist. In addition, he served as Associate Medical Director at MidAmerica Transplant Eye Bank, where he developed innovative and safe corneal tissue processing techniques to improve patient care.
Passionate about global health, Dr. Hong helped establish an eye clinic in Ghana, Africa, focused on research and treatment of neglected tropical eye diseases. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on cataract and corneal surgery, corneal disease, and infection. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog, playing musical instruments, and drawing.
Dr. Hong will begin seeing patients at our practice on 9/2/2025.
