LASIK is a two-step procedure that is painless and is uses both the Excimer laser and a microscopic displacement of corneal tissue to correct your vision. Patients who have nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism all can benefit from the LASIK procedure.
There are many benefits that our patients experience as a result of LASIK surgery. The most obvious benefit is improved vision, but with that comes a newfound sense of dom and confidence. It greatly reduces or eliminates your need to have contacts or glasses, which is very cost-effective.
We take great pride in educating our patients on the benefits and risks of having LASIK surgery because we want them to make the best decision for themselves. Each patient has a slightly different outcome, but after the procedure, most of our patients have 20/40 or better vision without the use of glasses or contacts. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
When we are determining if you are a good candidate for LASIK, one of the most important elements we consider if your refractive stability. We want our patients to have had their current prescription for over a year. If your prescription has changed in the last 12 months, it is an indication that your cornea is physically changing. With LASIK, we are able to restore your vision by reshaping your cornea and if your cornea is still changing, you would not have positive and lasting results.
If we have determined that you are a good candidate because of stable vision and you have been informed about the benefits and risks and have decided this is a good option for you, then you are a great candidate for LASIK. LASIK does have effects that are long-lasting, but we make sure that our patients understand that your vision may get slightly reduced over time and you may need to wear reading glasses.
After you have LASIK surgery, there should be a noticeable improvement with your vision. However, we like our patients to understand that your eyes may not fully heal for a few weeks or months. After the procedure, we give you patches to cover your eyes and you will also be given a medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort you may feel. Most of our patients feel a mild burning or stinging.
We have our patients schedule a follow-up with us within 1-2 days and we will remove your eye patches and check your vision. You will be given eye drops to keep your eyes moist and help your corneas to heal. We want our patients to limit their physical activity for several days and within a few weeks to months, your vision will dramatically improve.
Northwest Eye Physicians offer laser vision correction as an outpatient procedure to help restore your natural vision and reduce your need for glasses and contacts. Laser vision correction involves using a light beam to gently scrape your cornea. The light will pulse gently and this process will change the shape of your cornea to allow images to be focused more clearly on your retina.
Since 1998, Northwest Eye Physicians has been performing laser vision correction. Our doctors have vast experience and knowledge of laser vision technology and have found this surgery to be incredibly effective and safe for our patients.
Laser vision correction has been performed successfully on over 7 million patients. This procedure has been deemed as a safe and effective treatment option for patients who are eligible.
No it does not. We apply eye drops right before the procedure to eliminate any pain. Some patients may have a very minor discomfort for a few days after the procedure.
